its always a good check on my heart when i get to pick up the "Time Out" devotional Karen Ang loaned to me since i entered mum-hood. one read that has stayed on my mind is how my mission field is at home. my family. my kids.
well, right now, one kid.
after we returned from staff summit, i realised that asher had grown taller as i watched him tiptoe and fiddle with the dial on our front-loading washing machine. each time i pick him up i find that he's grown heavier. on occasion, haiks and i think his babble sounded like a real question. the kid's growing so fast, and it's crazy how he was just a helpless lil' thing some 8months back!
yet i'm sorely reminded how the best efforts and umpteen prayers may still not be enough when i see kids of godly parents turn rebels via same-gender relationships, sex, cigarettes and other vices. faints, i see it even in church every sunday, and it gets so distracting when a barely skimming the butt shorts/romper/skirt sashays past the aisles and/or the communion altar. and everytime i see that, my thoughts fly to how asher will turn out to be 18 years from now.
will he be rebellious? or will he be loving and doting to his siblings? will he be obedient to God and seek only His will? or will he demand his way and insist on trying new things just to prove he's master of his own life? *YIKES*
oh the sowing of seeds that begin even at a few months old, to be reaped many years later. as haiks often reminds me, "he won't be like this for long. soon he will be 18 years old. soon we will be on our way to the grave." i hope i won't forget these daily moments that i enjoy with him...bathing him, playing with him, watching him explore different things...and at the same time, still take time to grow my marriage.
