(: the hubby2be finally got to enjoy his much anticipated birthday cum x'mas present. it was the closest I've (and probably will ever) gotten near a Ferrari. In case you're wondering about the quality of the Ferrari shot, I used my sony ericsson. It's a pretty good shot of the very fast vehicle by my standards ;) of course, it paled in comparison to the other machine-gun like cameras many spectators were wielding.

was it worth it? well, for the hubby2be, definitely (: personally, it was quite an experience, especially hearing the engines roaring past in fractions of a second and just marvelling at the technology, team work and skill required for any driver to successfully complete a race.
we were seated by the floating stage @ marina bay, which gave us almost full view of the 2 crashes that ensued during the race. as 'thrilling' as those were, it was heart-braking, oops, heart-breaking to see Piquet Jr crash out so early, and later, Raikkonen's chances at the podium dashed. worse still, was Massa's horrendous incident; talk about being in the pits. :P sorry, couldn't resist that. The atmosphere was definitely exciting, with many passionate fans waving their national flags or team flags, cheering or booing the respective racers, hearing the collective groans when Ferrari's hopes were dashed one after another, and as Alonso blazed towards his miraculous victory.
Just in case you're wondering, my foray into learning about this sport didn't just start with hubby2be; i used to watch with my bro when we were much younger, when Schumacher reigned the tracks. And even more horrifying accidents happened back then.
So anyhow, after the race, we waited for the crowd to disperse and walked along the track. It's probably one of the rare times roads are closed off on the Red Dot and we get to walk along them. It was quite insightful to observe just how difficult the track was for the drivers; small bumps and humps noticeable while walking were probably multiplied manifold for the F1 cars. As we walked, I noticed some ang mohs pick up pieces of rubber off the ground; tyre shreds from the cars' excessive speeds. So i began looking at the ground too, to see if anything interesting caught my eye. And lo and behold, after a few minutes, I saw a black piece lying on the left of the road and hurriedly dragged hubby2be there. It was a piece of fibreglass, probably a fin, from one of the cars, about 10x4cm in size. of course, he was quite pleased with the accidental souvenir, and promptly dropped it into his waistpouch (:
The lights sure made the environment a lot more picturesque than we usually see it. I was quite amused with one Japanese tourist who went quite shutter crazy every few meters along the track. And that weekend seems to have passed too quickly :P I'm looking forward to the next season already. For now, I'll have to be content with catching the China and Japan legs on cable tv, channel 24 (:
